Essential packages for Ubuntu 18.04

Package manager on Ubuntu is great. However, remember the name of repositories and packages for Ubuntu is not easy. In this post, I will share the very common scripts for installing them. Just open a terminal, copy the commands, paste into the terminal and press Enter:

Install essential packages on Ubuntu 18.04 for the first time:

add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/macbuntu
add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
apt upgrade -y
apt install \
    git \
    default-jdk \
    gnome-tweak-tool \
    ibus-unikey \
    macbuntu-os-icons-v1804 \
    macbuntu-os-ithemes-v1804 \
    slingscold \
    albert \
    plank \
    chromium-browser \
    grub-customizer -y
apt autoremove -y
apt autoclean

Install Docker

curl -sSL https://get.docker.com/ | sudo sh
sudo usermod -aG docker ${USER}
sudo apt install docker-compose

Install Node.js

curl -sS https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/pubkey.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
echo "deb https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/ stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yarn.list
curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_13.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt install yarn nodejs -y
